John Dynon

John was born in Broken Hill in 1954. He left school at the age of 14 and after working on several stations around Broken Hill, became an underground miner. It was this incredible lifestyle that kindled Johns passion for the changing moods of the outback and his interest and dedication to his art was born. In 1985, he became a full time artist to meet the demand for his paintings.

John started his school career almost being expelled from kindergarten when after being caught for drawing on his school desk he was sent to the staff room to clean the rubbish on the floor. He found many tins of paint and decided to paint the staff room wall, using his hands, brooms and mops until finally caught by a teacher. John to this day still reckons it was real art and improved the staff room. From that day on whenever John was in class all he wanted to do was draw in the back of his school books.

"My inspiration always comes from the beauty, the isolation, the loneliness, the sunset and the Mundi Mundi, the vastness of the wide open spaces and the deep emotional feelings that spread through your soul when you experience this incredible euphoria that is the Australian outback".

John was chosen among five other "Outback Ambassadors" to host an event in London. An event organised by the Year of the Outback committee, designed to showcase the region and it's diversity. John was chosen due to his past involvement in promoting the town with Broken Hill Tourism and talked about his painting and experiences in Broken Hill and Silverton.

John is one of Australia's truly talented and respected artists. He is a great outback character who has been featured in many Australian television TV series'. His works are represented in collections throughout the world and are keenly sought by enthusiastic art collectors.
